A little girl, Charlotte, is taking her violin lessons at a prestigious school under the tutelage of a supportive teacher, who is an older man. Her mother hopes Charlotte is a prodigy like Midori Goto; the teacher knows she’s not. Like most children learning to play an instrument, it will take time, patience and a lot of personal discipline. Listening to her daughter play, her mother interrupts the lesson, upset with the child’s progress. Upset until she notices a picture in the room, a picture her father, the music teacher, saved since she was a child; a picture she drew that encouraged her to not quit when she was learning to play. Her memories help her realize how to encourage Charlotte, and to help her daughter find the music she hears within.
