Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap

This program begins by asking young children, "what are old people like?" Some children feel old people are kind hearted, others think they have funny ears and wrinkles, but, overall, lots of young children don't know; this situation occurs because in our fast-paced society, ever moving further and further apart, the separation between the young and the old is growing. This classic documentary was produced to help reverse that trend; it sensitively portrays the beauty of children and seniors relating to one another in four on-going Inter-generational programs. It give insight into the feelings and attitudes of children and seniors involved, it introduces educators to the benefits of organizing such programs, it acquaints children with the concept of aging, and it encourages seniors to participate as volunteers. These types of programs continue today to help children accept the process of aging while bringing joy to the elderly who participate; thus bridging the gap between the young and the old.
