5. Gabrielle's Story: Facing Temporary Separation

5. Gabrielle's Story: Facing Temporary Separation

Best Film Award -Atlanta F&V Festival
"Highly Recommended. A beautiful, lyrical account of the events surrounding a mother's two-month departure (to attend art school) through the eyes of her daughter, a 10-year-old girl, this program would be suitable for audiences with interests in separation issues. A variety of camera angles and superb editing provide continuing interest; both audio and videography are clear and crisp." -VRG Review
Today, especially with both parents needing to work to make ends meet, very often a parent needs to be separated from his or her child or children. Separation for an extended amount of time can lead to a lot of anxiety for both a child and an adult. This real-life drama features Missy Woodruff as 10-year-old Gabrielle, Leigh Smiley as her mother, Dina, and Gorman Ruggiero as her father, Bryan. Dina is an artist and has the opportunity to attend an art school, which means being separated from her family for two full months. Should she go? How will her family manage? How will her daughter handle her being apart from her so long? These are the normal questions that anyone would ask and wonder. Like most families, the answers come with some serious, sometimes emotional debate, but in the end loving communication between all provides the best results. Produced by Patricia Romeu. 01/09DE IJSCA 20 min.
