6. India's Fatehpur Sikri

6. India's Fatehpur Sikri

"Highly Recommended! An in-depth study of this once great Indian city." -CITC Review
"Highly Recommended! Fatehpur Sikri is an historic city in the Uttar Pradesh state of northern India, founded by the Mogul emperor, Akbar the Great, in 1569. It is unique in India as a largely intact masterpiece of Mogul architecture, and to emphasize its uniqueness, we are also shown the Taj Mahal, the finest example of late Indian Muslim architecture, built by Akbar's son, Shah Jahan Mahal." -VRG Review
The historic city of Fatehpur Sikri, which dates back to the mid-16th century, is located in the Uttar Pradesh state of northern India, and is regarded as Mogul Emperor Akbar the Great's crowning architectural legacy. From 1571 till 1585 it was the political capital of the Empire until being abandoned, it is believed, due to a lack of water. Today it is a World Heritage Site, visited by thousands worldwide, and includes one of the largest mosques in India, the Jama Masjid. Its complex of numerous palaces, halls, monuments and temples, in their uniform architectural style, continue to awe and inspire all who visit. Produced by Master's Mark, Inc. 99/09DE JSCA 30 min.
