1. Profile of a Children's Author: Angela Shelf Medearis

"Highly Recommended. This program offers a visit with African American children's author Angela Shelf Medearis who discusses in very simple terms the steps of publishing children's books, reading parts of her own work, and presenting material as a storyteller. She advises viewers to love what they do and remember that reading is a very important part of a person's life. The greatest strength of the piece is the warm and friendly style in which Medearis imparts information, as well as her pleasing personality." -VRG Review
African American children's author Angela Shelf Medearis was born in Virginia but because her father was an Air Force recruiter her family had to move frequently when she was a child. Writing was something she loved to do, which, eventually, turned into one of her careers. Today, she spends most of her time in Austin, Texas, and one of her on-going goals in life continues to be encouraging literacy for all children. In this profile she explains to children how, through her books and storytelling, she hopes to motivate children to read and write. 01/08DE PI 20 min.
