Stockdale Triumphs: A Return to Vietnam

Stockdale Triumphs: A Return to Vietnam

Best Film Award -Telly Awards
"Stockdale's resistance to the Vietnamese was not awesome, it was legendary." -Captain Bill Butler, American POW (Ret.)
Vietnam. For so many, the name... the country... the war... holds so much meaning. Today, there are many stories that have been told about American experiences during the Vietnam War; however, none may be as compelling as this true story of Vice Admiral James Stockdale's (1923 - 2005) return to Vietnam where he was held as a POW (Prisoner of War) in Hanoi for seven-and-one-half years. A Navy veteran of 37 years, who was awarded the Medal of Honor, Stockdale was America's highest-ranking POW and one of the most highly decorated officers in the history of the United States Navy. In this classic documentary we follow Vice Admiral Stockdale as he finds his way through the streets of Hanoi by pure instinct searching for a prison where he was shackled in leg irons and tortured. Here he retraces the lifeline of honor, which kept him alive throughout his ordeal, and talks about his nightmares of pain, claustrophobia and solitary confinement. Also, as we share the Vice Admiral's "reunion with his past," we get to meet his wife, Sybil Bailey Stockdale, who founded the National League of Families of American Prisoners Missing in Southeast Asia. Produced by the Stanford Video Media Group. 04/10DE JSCA 30 min.
