"Highly Recommended. This program, documenting the story of the Population and Community Development Association in Thailand, was well-shot and edited." -Video Librarian
Filmed in the villages of north and northeast Thailand, this classic documentary looks at the world of activist Mechai Viravaidya and his successful non-profit service organization, the Population and Community Development Association (PDA), which continues the work to improve the lives of the rural poor. Viravaidya was a winner of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, which is often considered Asia's Nobel Prize, for his years of service to help others, especially the poor. Here we see the PDA's innovative experiments to create rural employment, development, and community participation that help women who once worked in factories and bars in Bangkok return home to their rural communities. 98/08DE SCA 30 min.
