USA 7: Tolerance - Stop the Hate Crimes

USA 7: Tolerance - Stop the Hate Crimes

This program looks at intolerance, racism and hate crimes, which are sad and frightening, and unwanted by the vast majority of Americans. Here we see historical footage of riots in Boston after busing was mandated and after the beating of Rodney King in Los Angeles. Attorney Nancy Cervantes, former director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, blames economic injustice and warns that without remedy "American will become a country we're ashamed of." Cornel West, a Professor of Religion and African American Studies at Princeton University, cites unemployment, crime and cynicism as major problems. But there is hope: the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles and Project Teamwork are creating awareness. Darrell Williams, paralyzed by racial attack, champions appreciation of difference and diversity. Above all, this program advocates, what America needs is courage, responsibility, unification, and education. 01/12DE JSCA 30 min.
