"Highly Recommended. This documentary is a captivating retelling of some of the most fascinating moments in history in which weather played a significant role." -National Media Review
Hosted by actor Joe Inscoe, (Nell; Last Dance), this intriguing documentary presents a unique view of history by showing the profound influence that weather has had on the world, its societies, and on individual people, such as Benjamin Franklin and Leonardo da Vinci. We discover that unpredictable weather has played a vital part throughout the world's history: heavy rain and flooding eventually led to the defeat of Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Army in 1865 during the Civil War; heavy rains in Western Pennsylvania in 1889 lead to the Johnstown Flood that killed over 2200 people; Allied command forces were forced to delay the invasion of Normandy, France, in 1944 during World War II due to bad weather; an unusually hot August was responsible for the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which destroyed one-third of the city; warm and damp weather caused the Irish potato crop famine in 1845, which resulted in the subsequent emigration of a quarter of Ireland's population; also, in 1281, a typhoon destroyed Kublai Khan's entire fleet of ships that were about to attack Japan - and the thankful Japanese then named the storm kamikaze or "divine wind."
