Nicaragua: The Ceasefire

Nicaragua: The Ceasefire

"Recommended. Poignant - real - a moving study of the country." -Video Librarian
Nicaragua, though the largest country in Central America in area, is the least densely populated. Its modern history has been plagued with conflicts and violence. Fighting among Sandinistas and Contras occurred often during the 1980s; then in 1990 Violeta Barrios de Chamorro became the first female president democratically elected to a Latin American nation, and peaceful times have continued now into the new century. This classic documentary looks at the everyday lives of residents in the rural Nicaraguan village of San Fernando as they struggle to maintain their families and livelihoods since the ceasefire; also we see the personal, political, and social ramifications a newly married couple face as they embark on a new life in the Third World. Sub-titled. Produced by FilmStallet & Birkeland Film Productions. 98/07DE JSCA 60 min.
