A Study of Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing

Study of Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing, A

Unfortunately, since the unthinkable Holocaust against Jewish people during World War II, genocide continues to occur; examples include Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur. For this single reason alone, we must continue to study and learn about genocide and ethnic cleansing, as difficult as that can be; hoping, through learning, that somehow horrible acts against humanity can be ended. Norman Naimark, is a Professor of History at Stanford University, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and an author; two of his books include The Russians in Germany: The History of the Soviet Zone of Occupation, 1945-1949 and Fires of Hatred: Ethnic Cleansing in 20th Century Europe. He specializes in modern East European history, genocide and ethnic cleansing, and in this program examines the psychological and strategic motivations of groups of people whose goal is to exterminate, rather than simply conquer, enemies. 00/08DE SCA 30 min.
