20. Happy Campers (Energy Use and Safety)

20. Happy Campers (Energy Use and Safety)

It's nearing the end of the school year and part of the class goes on a camping trip to a hydro-generating station and dam as part of a study on energy safety and conservation. Melissa is portrayed as the energy hog of the story, which also focuses on safety at the dam. Many people use dams for recreation and some disregard the safety guidelines. The major problems occur above the dams when people go inside the safety barriers and are sucked under by the undertow or below the dams when water is released and they don't heed the warnings. With regard to Melissa as the energy hog, the question this program wants the viewers to ask themselves is, "do you really need to use a lot of appliances?" rather than send the message "don't use any at all." 00/08DE IJS 30 min.
