For Body and Soul (Culture of India)

"Recommended. The viewer is taken to Hindu shrines and to a traditional bread bakery, where Indian religion and gastronomic culture contribute to the cultural melting pot of Malaysia. This is a feast for the eyes, full of beautiful architecture set amidst a mountainous landscape; also monkeys and pigeons frolic in the background, adding a bit of humor." -EMRO Review
Indian mysteries, traditions, culture and religion - each offer nourishment for the human soul. At the cathedral-like Batu Caves in Malaysia, Brahmin Priests are brought from India to conduct ancient rituals at the many shrines. These limestone caves are located about eight miles north of Kuala Lumpur and one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India. Here you find the world's tallest statue of the Hindu deity, Murugan, along with the famous 272 steps that take to the sacred temples; this too is the location for the yearly festival of Thaipusam, which draws over 800,000 visitors. We also visit an Indian bakery where other rituals occur: mixing and kneading dough, heating ovens, and making loaves. As the making of bread offers a symbolic insight into the realities of living, Indian religion attempts to unveil the mysteries of life. 00/10DE JSCA 30 min.
