Scotland: The Grand Tour

Scotland: The Grand Tour

Author J.K. Rowling has said about her homeland, "Scotland is one of the most hauntingly beautiful and historic places in the world," and this comprehensive tour confirms how correct she is; no matter where you travel in this glorious country, you are certain to discover fascinating history and unforgettable natural beauty. Here we visit the famous capital city, Edinburgh, as well as its largest city, Glasgow; plus Ft. William, the largest town in the Highlands. We enjoy the resort town of Oban, the Isle of Iona, which is said to be the first Christian site in the country, and the Kingdom of Fife, where the home of golf is located in the historic town of St Andrews. We witness the excitement of the world famous Highland Games, explore the beauty of the Borders, as well as the Trossachs, a small woodland glen made famous in the novel Rob Roy. We experience the culture of Pitlochry, marvel at the volcanic mountains of Glencoe, and take in the splendor of Loch Lomond, the largest fresh body of water in the UK, and Loch Ness, home to the legendary monster, affectionately know as Nessie. Scotland is home to many of the world's greatest castles, including Earlshall Castle, built in 1546 by William Bruce, Clamis Castle, which was the legendary setting for Macbeth, Blair Castle, which dates back to the 13th century, and the architecturally stunning Sterling Castle. Also we discover Culloden Moor, scene of the last major battle on mainland Britain, which ended the Stuart throne; plus Killiecrankie, where in 1689 a famous battle was fought during the Jacobite Rebellion.
