Birth Trauma

Birth Trauma

Dr. Stuart Korth, a Pediatric Osteopath, explains that birth trauma is assessed with the Apgar score, which is an index of a child's alertness and color at birth. In Part 1, we meet Pippa Hoyer-Millar, and her daughter, Minty, who has Cerebral Palsy, which we learn can be caused at anytime by any assault on the brain that reduces its blood supply, and that symptoms may vary from mild to severe. We follow Minty's progress at Advance, a Cerebral Palsy charitable clinic, and hear from its directors, Linda Scotson and Leonid Bluym. In Part 2, Dr. Korth describes osteopathy; then we meet Jane Horn, her new baby, Jed, who experienced distress during his birth, and Dr. Martin Bowles, a Pediatric Osteopath, who explains the procedures used to relieve Jed's tension and possible trauma. Next we meet Caroline Hallett and her daughter Holly, who was born six months premature and learn from Dr. Gabriella Colangello, a Pediatric Osteopath, about a method of touch that improves blood circulation in babies. 05/09DE CA 30 min.
