Jane Eyre

Eyre, Jane

Based on the gothic novel by Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre, this digitally re-mastered version of the black and white classic stars Joan Fortaine in the title role as the timid yet strong Jane, Orson Welles as the imposing and gruff Edward Rochester, master of Thornfield Hall, Margaret O'Brien as Mr. Rochester's daughter, Adele, Peggy Ann Garner as the young orphaned Jane, and the relatively unknown at the time, Elizabeth Taylor, who appears as Jane's childhood friend, Helen. The screenplay was written by author Aldous Huxley, actor John Houseman, and Robert Stevenson, who also directed the film, and though not a pure translation of the novel, the excellent cinematography and acting combine to create a masterful re-telling of the story. Produced by Twentieth Century Fox. 44/10DE JSCA 93 min.
