31. Mapping: The Flat Earth Society

Alex's (Stephen Joffe) teacher has suggested that kids shouldn't be afraid to challenge accepted truths about history, but when Alex questions the idea that Christopher Columbus discovered the Earth, his classmates burst into fits of laughter. Enter the Timeblazers, Sam (Mike Ackerman) and Jen (Heidi Leigh), who help Alex put history to the test. Here we look at how people proved the world was round. First we look at the "Flat Earth" theory; then we see that Erotosthanes figured out the world was round by sending a guy on a very long walk; next we look at some pretty crazy Medieval maps, then we learn about Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan and the maps of the Age of Discovery. 05/10DE IJ 30 min.
