Witkin, Isaac

This program documents an exclusive interview host Savanna Jackson had with the sculptor Isaac Witkin before his death in 2006. Born in 1936 in Johannesburg, South Africa the sculptor moved to London, England when he 21 and attended the St. Martin's School of Art and studied under sculptor Sir Anthony Caro. During his time in the UK, Witkin served as an apprentice to the famed British sculptor, Henry Moore. In 1965 Witkin immigrated to the United States to become an artist-in-residence at Bennington College, Vermont. The prolific sculptor discusses his career and his sculptures at the Grounds for Sculpture, including Garden State, his tribute to the state of New Jersey; The Bathers; Linden Tree; Hawthorne Tree II and Madame Butterfly; he also explains why he wanted to be a sculptor and elaborates on his association with Henry Moore. 2009 JSCA 50 min.
