1. The Hollywood Lens of Murray Garrett: In Focus

"There are photographers, and then there is Murray Garrett; he captures something different, something special that is missed by other photographers." -Bob Hope
The stars are iconic: Marilyn Monroe, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Red Skelton, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton - to name just a few. And the photojournalist on assignment in Hollywood from 1946 to the 1970s to capture pictures that would run exclusively in magazines, such as Time and LIFE, and immortalize these legends of the big screen was Murray Garrett. It was through his able camerawork that a star's personality, his or her true character, was presented to the public. In this biographical documentary we are offered a candid look at the man behind the camera, who also provides memorable reflections of the people behind their celebrity status. Here we are privy to first-hand accounts of the photographer's matchless adventures with the stars, which are paralleled by interviews with a select host of family, friends and colleagues, including the Honorary Mayor of Hollywood, Johnny Grant, Phyllis Diller, Dick Martin, Beverly Garland, Don Knotts, A.C. Lyles, as well as Charles Champlin, Bob Thomas, Terry Moore and Morgan Woodward. Collectively, we gain a unique behind-the-scenes' glimpse of the Golden Era of Hollywood, while learning the incredible story of the man whose legendary work helped ensure its legacy. Produced by BBTFilms. 2009 JSCA 80 min.
