Anna Hoffman (Women's Army Auxillary Corp)

Hoffman, Anna (Women's Army Auxillary Corp)

The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was established during World War II, in May 1942, to work with the Army, "for the purpose of making available to the national defense the knowledge, skill, and special training of the women of the nation." Major Oveta Culp Hobby was the WAAC's first Director. Then in March 1943 the WAACs were converted into the Women's Army Corps (WAC), which became part of the Army itself rather than merely serving with it. In this program host Esther Mills welcomes Anna Hoffman, an original member of the WAAC, who takes us through the history of the Corps, how it evolved over time, and up to today when more than twenty percent of the military. 2010 SCA 30 min.
