2. Stolen Lives (Drugs and Auto Theft) - Level 1

Millions of cars are stolen in the United States and Canada every year. As RCMP officer Tim Shields explains, a large number of car thieves are drug addicts; they steal cars and trucks and also commit other crimes in order to raise cash to feed their drug habits. This program was produced to reveal the highly dangerous and destructive criminal act of stealing cars, which all too often leads to death for the offenders; its goal is to have a high impact on viewers in an effort to dissuade them from ever thinking about stealing cars, while reinforcing the dangers of drugs and drug addiction. Profiling the lives of six drug addicts, this is not just a program about stolen cars; it is the story of stolen lives. Here victims of auto theft share their personal stories of pain and grief regarding the loss of family members; also car thieves tell their own stories of why they steal cars and the consequences of their deadly behavior. Powerful and graphic, this documentary uses police footage of collisions, bait car thefts, and the personal stories of both the victims and the criminals to deliver a strong prevention message to youth on the true cost of auto theft. 07/10DE JSCA 30 min.
