The Highlands of Scotland

Highlands of Scotland, The

The Highlands of Scotland hold a place in the hearts of many, which is evident by the Highland Games that are held yearly throughout the United States and other countries to celebrate the culture and heritage of the Scottish Highlands. Knowing this, filmmaker and adventure-lecturer Tom Sterling decided to document his two-year visit to Scotland by offering a fresh look at this revered land, using his trained eye as an Interpretive Field Naturalist to include the naturally wilder parts of the country along with the recognizable aspects of the Scotland experience. Here we of course experience Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Aviemore, Loch Ness, Stirling Castle, Urquhart Castle, Dunrobin Castle, Bamoral Castle, Eilean Donan Castle, Royal Dormoch Golf Course, ancient ruins, proud bagpipers and whisky distilleries, but also we learn of Hadrian's Wall, witness a pipe band contest and sheep dog trial, enjoy Inverewe Gradens, view wildlife in Highland Wildlife Park, spend a week at the Borrobol Estate and discover Iron Age Brochs, stone rings and burial cairns, visit Handa Island with its vast numbers of seabirds; then conclude our tour seeing Durness Golf Club, sheep shearing, Atlantic Salmon, and mysterious Smoo Cave. 04/10DE JSCA 86 min.
