Dr. Norman Campbell, also known as "The Bug Doctor," traveled around the world collecting insects. In this program he shares his years of experience to help make understanding insects interesting and fun. Here we learn that insects are a vital part of the world's natural ecosystem. Dr. Campbell defines what an insect is, what characteristics separate the different orders, and what metamorphosis is; then he offers a generalized evolution of insects with examples of each stage, including leg and wing changes.

Beginning with building or selecting a net, he demonstrates how to stun the specimen, remove it from the net, and then kill, store, pin, dry, and tag it for display. Close-ups of the process help guide viewers follow the directions. And in most cases, Dr. Campbell suggests low-cost, homemade substitutes for professional supplies.
